International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day

This Sunday is International Literacy Day, and we are celebrating by sharing news from our Youth on the Move initiative.

Youth on the Move works with youth in 74 villages across Prey Veng province in Cambodia in an effort to stem sexual and labor exploitation, sexual abuse, and trafficking. Youth on the Move’s goal is to improve the learning and life outcomes of vulnerable youth who are at risk of migrating in search of work without the adequate life skills and knowledge to do so safely.

Pictured above is a young woman who has been trained, through support from World Education, as an advocate within her local village. She raises awareness around the potential dangers of migration, and also teaches local children who are not in school basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills. Today’s lesson is on good hygiene, health, and well-being.
